I’ve written before about the importance of being emotionally well and how all too often a physical symptom, like back pain, or headaches are the result of negative emotions. I often come across clients that have a very textured chest or heart reflex. I ask the usual questions, have they had a chest infection? Suffer from a heart condition? Or do they have asthma? If the answer is no, I then ask if they have they suffered from great loss, like parents separating, a loved one dying or a betrayal, amazingly, the answer is almost always yes. You see, people that have gone through emotional turmoil often harbour that pain in their chest or heart – we’re all familiar with the phrase ‘get things off your chest’ but how many of us actually do it? Most of us push the feeling down and keep it locked away, which is fine in the short run but dangerous in the long. Reflexology may help unlock those feelings and help us deal with them, or as we say ‘get them off our chest’. I’ve lost count of the amount of times clients have ended the session in tears. Now, I don’t want to give the impression that my treatments are so awful my clients are reduced to tears, rather the reflexology releases tension which allows them to feel more freely, crying after all is simply a very natural way of expressing emotion, the tears I witness are predominantly those of relief.
